A beautiful book for children and their families, Milky Moments celebrates the joy of childhood and mothering, and normalises breastfeeding as a part of day-to-day life.

Delightfully illustrated scenes are complemented by lyrical rhyming text that gently draws the reader into the lives of the families depicted. The hand-painted illustrations are set in a variety of locations including a playgroup, a shopping trip, parks, hospital and at home. The children’s ages range from newborn to 5 years old, baby and child breastfeeding positioning is accurate and realistic, and the love and attention to detail in the book were inspired by the guiding principles of the La Leche League and the author’s own personal experience.

Inspirational, intimate and fun, Milky Moments is not only a book to treasure, but also a book that will educate and inform on the importance and normality of breastfeeding – however old you are.

So much crammed into one book!

Jen Gabler on 2nd Jun 2015

We love it! The book follows several families as babies or toddlers are breastfed, on outings to the beach or the shops, as the family waits for a new baby to arrive or celebrates an ill newborn getting stronger and leaving the hospital, at a birthday party or just eating a family meal at home. There are older siblings who appear to have weaned and families with just the mother shown. The ethnic backgrounds of the characters are also diverse. So much crammed into one book! The rhymes don't feel forced as I find children's books often are, and the illustrations are beautiful. The characters are all named at the end, and we were delighted to find that two had the same names as my nurslings. There's no 'goal' to this book, like trying to help children night wean or prepare for a younger sibling: it just celebrates many different aspects of normal, everyday life for a breastfeeding family.
With so much thought over the illustrations, you won't get bored reading this again and again (and again!) - there's always something else to spot. My 15 month old can point to Eric the bear on every page now, and my (nearly!) 3 year old loves finding new details, like the cupcake from the birthday party that was given to the Mum in the hospital with her baby. The only downside to this book is that my kids (who want it read every time they breastfeed... and who breastfeed a lot still!) often feel the need to unlatch and tell me things about what they're seeing... and we can all imagine how that ends! :-D

Beautiful book

I received my copy of Milky Moments and from the front cover artwork, I was hooked.

The beautiful illustrations of mother and child evoke such feelings of warmth and love. My daughter and I began looking at the book together and I just loved the introduction page, telling the reader that they will read about families just like theirs.
As we read through the book, we came to see that this was indeed true. So much so that as we turned each page,my daughter would excitedly proclaim that the child in each picture was her!
We both loved spotting Eric the Bear in each scene, something which my daughter has become an expert at having read it several times now!

The rhyming verses depict nursing in several familiar settings, each one highlighting the loving and nurturing experience that breastfeeding can provide.
The illustrations are a perfect accompaniment to the text; I look at them and feel they have been created with such care and love. The detail is extraordinary and the depiction of breastfeeding is accurate.

Something I particularly enjoyed was how there wasn't a heavy emphasis on 'breastfeeding'; it was just so naturally included in various ️️lovely scenes that children could easily identify with.

It's just beautiful. I don't just like it, I love it. The words capture everything I've ever wanted to tell my children about breastfeeding. The book makes it so special and yet so normal-not an easy feat.
I particularly liked the nursing whilst pregnant scene and the tandem nursing at the end.
Just wonderful. My daughter's favourite pages are the toddler group, the cafe and the biscuit scene. Probably because they all have biscuits!
I have recommended this book to various friends and I am so happy that a book which accurately portrays breastfeeding as a normal part of family life has been written so beautifully. If I could give it six stars I would.

Our new favourite bedtime book that will be treasured for many years.
